JAMMU, Feb 24: Delhi Public School, Jammu celebrated its Annual Sports Meet 2015-16 in its School premises, here today.
Dilbag Singh, Additional Director General of Police was the chief guest on the occasion.
Principal DPS Katra, Rajkumar Verma also graced the occasion, while Headmistress, DPS Jammu, Meenu Gupta and members of administration and coordinators were also present.
Ruchi Chabra, Principal, DPS Jammu presented welcomed address and emphasized that this experience of Sports Day may turn a new leaf in the lives of the students because education builds character but sports reveals it.
The programme began with DPS song and welcome dance. A scintillating start to the day’s programme began with the March Past which was the crowning glory of all sporting events.
The ceremonial parade consisting of the five houses- Chenab, Ganga, Jhelum, Tawi and Yamuna marched elegantly to the tune of the school band. Each of the house marched along with the House captain and Vice House captain bearing their house flags proudly.
The Sport Torch was lit by the chief guest marking the commencement of the sporting events of the day. The Chief Guest also declared the sports meet open. He also addressed the gathering with his inspiring words explaining that sports is a unifying factor where sportspersons from different states, cities and countries meet and work together to bring name and fame for their nation.
Demonstrations of various sports like Yoga, Lazium, Taekwando, Speed Ball, Fencing and Aerobics were presented by the students followed by different races like Sack race for Juniors, Relay race for Seniors and Ball in the basket race for Pre-Nursery students.
Students actively participated and showcased their multi-faceted talents. The winners were awarded with medals and certificates for the year 2015-16. Sanand Sharma and Siya Singh were adjudged Best Sports Achievers of the Year, while Ishita Singh and Musaif Ajaz were declared as the Best Sports Persons in Skating and Cricket respectively. Soham Kamotra and Iknoor were adjudged as the Best Sports Persons in Junior Category.
The day concluded with the award ceremony, wherein 60 students were awarded with trophies by the dignitaries for their outstanding performances in different sports fields such as Badmintion, Taekwando, Chess, Swimming, Judo karate, Speed ball, Wu-shu, Cricket, Archery, Rifle Shooting, Table Tennis, Yoga and Fencing.
Finally, Principal, DPS Jammu, Ruchi Chabra honoured the chief guest with the memento of love and respect. The programme concluded with National Anthem.
