JAMMU, Aug 7: The displaced persons (DPs) from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir held strong protest demonstration in front of Press Club of Jammu near Exhibition Ground here today.
A large number of displaced persons including women activists under the banner of PoK DPs’ Front Jammu and Kashmir-1947, 65 & 71 assembled at Exhibition Ground near Press Club here at around 11 am and started protest demonstration in support of their long pending demands. Capt (Retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib was leading the protest.
The displaced persons shouted slogans against Government alleging that it has failed to mitigate the sufferings of lakhs of displaced families struggling for their rights for the last over six decades. They demanded their one time comprehensive settlement. They were carrying banners and placards in hands depicting their demands.
As they tried to take out protest rally towards Dogra Chowk, a police contingent restricted their movement and did not allow them to take out rally towards city. Later, they continued their protest at the same place. Several refugee leaders also addressed the large gathering.
Capt Yudhvir in his address appealed all the bodies of DPs to get united for further course of action prior to coming Assembly elections. He also demanded that the left out DP families be registered without any delay, ownership rights to the DPs of 1947, 65 and 71 (Non-Camp) be given and all the DPs residing in Kathua, Samba, Jammu and parts of Rajouri and Poonch. He also demanded reservation for the DP youth in professional and other colleges and institutes besides universities and jobs. The DPs further demanded allotment of land to those whose deficiency has not been removed. Besides this, they demanded that some seats be kept reserved for DPs as 24 seats of PoJK are still lying vacant.
