UDHAMPUR, Apr 12: Delhi Public School (DPS) Udhampur celebrated Annual Sports Meet amidst great mirth, verve and merriment, here today.
Pawan Gupta, MLA Udhampur was the chief guest on the occasion, while DIG Surinder Gupta and SSP Udhampur, Suleman Choudhary were the guests of honour.
Prominent among other dignitaries present on the occasion were Dr JC Gupta, chairman (LMC) DPS Udhampur, Vivek Gupta, managing director, Yogeshwari Rathore, Principal and Sucheta Gupta, Vice Principal.
The chief guest and other dignitaries were welcomed with bouquet and were pinned badges. This was entailed by ‘Lighting of the Torch’ by the chief guest and the dignitaries thus declaring the Sports Meet open.
An impressive ‘March Past’ was presented by the four houses of the school which rendered the spectators speechless and awestruck.
The most intriguing aspect, embellishing the event was the splendid field displays, involving mass student participation which splattered on the field. The cultural program included the various dances like Durga Stuti, Rainbow Dance, Welcome Dance, Fusion Dance, Aerobics, Four States and Drill.
This was followed by track events which included, Balloon race, Balancing race, Lemon race, Three Legged race, Needle ‘n’ Thread race, Sack race, cycling race, Baton relay races, Skipping races, 100m and 400m race, Shot-put and Discuss Throw
The chief guest, in his address contended that sports event at school level really help the children to understand the real feel of the discipline and it promotes a sense of enthusiasm amongst them. He said that he would feel obliged if he is been called in the future events of the school also.
The DIG Mr Gupta and SSP Mr Choudhary lauded the efforts of the students and the organizing staff.
The chairman of the School, Dr. JC Gupta in his address said that such occasion is always momentous for children and lavished praise for the organizers for successful conduct of the Meet.
Finally, medals, trophies and other prizes were distributed by the chief guest among the winners.
A vote of thanks was given by the Principal of the School, Yogeshwari Rathore. The ceremony concluded with the singing of National Anthem.
