UDHAMPUR, Apr 28: An impressive and colorful function was organized today at Majalta in connection with the birthday celebration of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Spokesperson, State BJP and former MLA Ramnagar, R. S. Pathania was the chief-guest on the occasion.
After paying floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar, Pathania said that Baba Sahib was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who stimulated the Dalit Buddhist Movement and campaigned against social discrimination.
Making a pointed reference to certain vested interests who are out and out to distort Ambedkar’s philosophy for their political gains, he said that Dr. Ambedkar laid thrust on the universal, holistic and cosmopolitan survival of Indian society and the State.
While making a value judgment comment, Pathania said that Babasaheb had opposed insertion of Article 370 in the Constitution of India. Quoting Dr Ambedkar, he said the founding father of Indian Constitution had said “Sheikh Abdullah : You wish India should protect your borders, she should build roads in your area, she should supply you food grains, and Kashmir should get equal status as India. But Government of India should have only limited powers and Indian people should have no rights in Kashmir’’,. “To give consent to this proposal, would be a treacherous thing against the interests of India and I, as the Law Minister of India, will never do it.” However, Sheikh Abdullah approached Nehru, who managed the things and got the law passed in Constituent Assembly. It was as a mark of protest that Ambedkar did not reply to questions on it in the Assembly.
He said it is high time that a comprehensive debate is required in order to assess the pros and cons of the Special status provision. It is high time that proponents of special status need to answer – Why youth, entrepreneurs, females of the State have been denied of the avenues and opportunities as are available to those in rest of the country. Why the J & K Panchayati Raj Act is different from the Panchayati Raj Acts of the rest of the country. Why Forest Dwellers Act is not applicable in J&K?.
