LEH, 20 Oct: ITBP High Altitude Football Cup 2017, being organized by Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) got underway, here today.
The tournament is being held under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs under its Civic Action Progamme and ITBP has been assigned the task of conducting the tournament in Leh District with an aim to promote sports and games especially football among the youth of Leh District.
As many as 40 teams representing different football clubs are participating in the ten days tournament. The winner of the tournament will get cash award of Rs.25000, followed by Rs.20, 000 to runners-up team, 8000 to third position holder and 7000 cash award to fourth position holder.
LAHDC Chairman Dr Sonam Dawa inaugurated the tournament in presence of ITBP Ladakh Range DIG Jai Pal Yadav. The inaugural friendly match was played between United Ladakh and Black Yak team and match ended in draw both managed to score one goal each.
Extending his gratitude to ITBP for organizing such mega event in Leh to provide opportunity to sport lover youth, Dr.Sonam Dawa said that Ladakhi youth possesses good talent and stamina and if provided such opportunities they can shine at National and International level events to make India proud. He added that ITBP have been rendering various kind of support to Ladakhi society during bad and good time especially during natural calamities. He also suggested to include female football team to give impetus to the talent of women players.
Earlier, presenting the welcome speech ITBP DIG JP Yadav said that ITBP had been conducting various activities to benefit the local and this time seeing the talent and interest of youth towards football this mega football event is organized so that youth can show their talent at various platforms.
