NEW DELHI, Apr 3: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also Member of Parliament from Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha constituency, today allocated an amount of Rs. 80 lakh from his MPLAD fund for various works to be undertaken in districts of Udhampur, Reasi, Doda and Ramban .
Out of this amount, Rs. 25 lakh has been allocated for district Udhampur which includes Rs. 20 lakh earmarked for a Community Hall at Battal Block, Rs. 20 lakh for Community Hall at Krimchi Block and Rs. 5 lakh for protection work in Ward No. 11, near Shitla Mandir in Ramnagar.
An amount of Rs. 18.45 lakh, in addition to earlier sanctioned amount of Rs. 17.55 lakh, in total Rs. 35.9 lakh, has been allocated for construction of link road from Kadmal to Popat Chhatravas, Katra in district Reasi, in convergence with the fund allocated by J&K Public Works Department.
An amount of Rs. 11.07 lakh has been recommended by Dr Jitendra Singh from MPLAD fund for purchase of one fuel efficient bus for Navodaya Vidyalaya, Doda and Rs. 3 lakh for constructing protection wall at Middle School, Kudhar, Block Kastigarh, also in district Doda.
Another amount of Rs. 5 lakh has been recommended for construction of protection wall at High School, Dhantrath in Ramban.
Dr Jitendra Singh also issued written directions to DC Udhampur, who happens to be the nodal officer for the Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha constituency, to release the amount under different heads for carrying out the works.
This amount is in addition to several other works funded through Dr Jitendra Singh’s MPLAD fund during the last one year, which include 1965 War Memorial at Reasi, Dreamland Park in Udhampur, School Bus for Navodaya Vidyalaya Basohli, foot-bridges in rural areas of district Udhampur, modern community hall at Chenani, public meeting shed in Ramnagar etc.
In addition, a number of other projects have been initiated in the constituency through the efforts of Dr Jitendra Singh which include Keediyan-Gadyal bridge in district Kathua, Basohli-Banera bridge, Bio-tech Park in Gati, Kathua, upgradation of Central School at Chenani, radio station at Udhampur, upgradation of radio transmitter at Bhaderwah, Express Road Corridor from Delhi to Katra via Amritsar etc.
Meanwhile, Dr Jitendra Singh spoke to Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, N. N. Vohra on telephone and discussed in detail, the situation arising as a result of clash among groups of students at NIT Srinagar following a T-20 cricket match between India and West Indies.
Dr Jitendra Singh conveyed to the Governor, the Government of India’s concern about the strife-torn situation and said that the State authorities were expected to deal with the situation effectively and diligently. The Governor assured the Union Minister that he had instructed the local authorities to exercise full caution and vigil.
Later, Dr Jitendra Singh also spoke to Director General of Police (DGP) J&K, K Rajendra Kumar and conveyed concern about the volatile situation in NIT campus. DGP assured Dr Jitendra Singh that the situation was under control and Superintendent of Police of Srinagar had been instructed to station himself inside the campus.
Dr Jitendra Singh also suggested that the decision to open the NIT from Monday should be reviewed once again, depending upon the immediate current situation and, if required, the re-opening of the institute can be deferred by another few days.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a function in the afternoon, Dr Jitendra Singh also disclosed that Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh was personally monitoring the situation at NIT Srinagar and receiving inputs from the State authorities. Meanwhile, he said that he had also received a phone call from Union Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj who instructed him to keep in touch with the developments in NIT Srinagar and later she also spoke to Governor J&K, N. N. Vohra.
