JAMMU, Sept 14: While launching the Bio Technology Park at Gatti Kathua, the Minister of State in PMO with independent Charge of Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh said that another such park will be setup at Srinagar in Kashmir Valley and Jammu will also soon have National Institute of Eco Research and Analysis (NIERA).
The establishment of such research based centers will help in prevention of disasters like floods and minimizing the damages caused by natural calamities.
Addressing a seminar of natural calamity in J&K and initiative of Ministry of Science and Technology organized by CSIR-Indian Institute of Science and Technology, he said Eco Research Centers will be set up in all three regions of State including Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
Dr Singh said his Ministry has decided to bring Science and Technology to lesser known parts of the country as this Government has to compete the 60 years backlog in 60 months.
Highlighting the another achievements of his ministry, he said now the scientists will have to take classes for minimum 12 hours in schools during the academic session.
While stressing on scientific research, he said no nation can become great without advancement in Science and Technology. Progress in scientific field can lead to economic prosperity, he added.
He said one of the causes in floods in Kashmir was that the river which was meant for drainage was chocked. He said entire nation is with flood hit people of the State and lauded the Science and technology IIIMs of country for donating liberally for the flood hit people.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that liberal donations are coming from country but the State has no storage. One lakh Haldiram packets are stocked at Delhi but the State Government has no storage for the same. There is no one ready to take these items, he added.
He appealed the Chief Minister to make arrangements for storing of the food material meant for flood hit people.
Counting launching of “Sindhu Sadhana” first indigenously constructed research ship at Goa, first indigenous injectable polio and rotavirus vaccines, launching of first commercial satellite from Sriharikota, new scheme KIRAN to encourage women scientists, exclusive scheme to pick up young scientific minds at school level and a revolutionary decision by him to make it mandatory for over 5000 scientists in his department to teach in schools and colleges as some of the major highlights of last 100 days.
Dr Jitendra Singh said with today’s launching the Jammu has emerged on national science map of India and that too is an achievement in itself.
He said the IIT has already been sanctioned and the work on inter -State bridge at Kathua is going to start soon.
Secretary Science and Technology Dr V Raghavan, Director, Ram Vishwakarma Director IIIM, Ram Vishwakarma and Joint Secretary S&T S Raghawan were present in the function.
