NEW DELHI, May 7: In a two-hour long Video Conference interaction with public activists across different districts of Jammu & Kashmir, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh appealed for reassuring those returning from outside to have patience and bear with the authorities because even though the movement of returnees is continuing uninterrupted, it has to be carried out with caution and in keeping with the guidelines in order to avoid risk to others.
Dr Jitendra Singh appreciated the public activists and civil society for coordinating with the administration with perfect harmony, which was an example in itself and said, the positive outcome of this was that the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir had fared better than many other States and Union Territories in the fight against Corona. He cautioned that any laxity or haste at this stage could adversely affect the advantage that had been gained in the last six weeks or so.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the administration and other agencies, particularly at the entry point of Lakhanpur, were under tremendous pressure and were trying to accommodate all. However, he said, preference was given to those who had gone out for labour work and then got held up because of lockdown, as a result of which they were hard pressed.
During the interaction, participants from Kathua, Anantnag, Udhampur, Doda, Bhaderwah, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch and other places were, by and large, appreciative of the proactive measures taken by the administration. They also thanked Dr Jitendra Singh for being in regular touch with them during this period of crises and for enabling coordination between administration and civil society. They assured that in future also they would continue to offer all cooperation from their side.
Dr Jitendra Singh requested the district representatives and other participants to keep providing their inputs so that the follow up of all the related issues could be done effectively on day to day basis. He said, a mechanism has been developed whereby the inputs are received round-the-clock and, if required, contact is established with the respective district administration in any part of the country.
