NAGPUR, June 28: “Aptitude workshops and camps will be organized in schools and colleges across the country to instil scientific temperament among youngsters”, announced Dr.Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (MoS) for Science and Technology (Independent Charge) and MoS, PMO here today while inaugurating two- day National Convention of Scientists and Technocrats organized by Vigyan Bharati.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Dr Jitendra Singh stressed the need for scientific applications to be locally specific. He reminded that even though science has no language and boundaries and if scientists of different countries and different languages can communicate effectively, why is it difficult for the scientific fraternity within the country to work as a team rising above all barriers. He emphasized the need for harmonious coordination among various scientific organizations and establishments in the country.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that he had requested the Finance Ministry to increase the allocation of funds to boost several new initiatives envisaged by the Department of Science & Technology. He also mentioned steps being taken to fill vacancies as many institutes and divisions at present are being managed by acting or officiating Heads and Directors. He assured that the right persons will be placed at the right positions to achieve maximum potential of the institutions.
Science & Technology Ministry will chart out unique programs and projects to catch the youngsters to pursue a career in science, said Dr Jitendra Singh, adding the Government will send youngsters to different countries for exposure through interaction with eminent scientists including Nobel laureates. He described the younger generation as the foundation of future India.
600 delegates from across the country from more than 100 scientific institutions are participating in the National Convention of Vijnana Bharati. Dr. G.Madhavan Nair, Dr. V.K.Saraswat, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, Dr. K.I. Vasu and A.Jaya Kumar are leading the discussions on various topics. Suresh Soni, the mentor of Vijnana Bharati delivered the keynote address.
