IMPHAL, Aug 5:  Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State in PMO and for Development of North Eastern Region (independent charge) and Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju today made an aerial survey of the landslide and flood-affected areas in Manipur.
After assessing the post flood situation, Dr Jitendra Singh told media that Centre would provide all possible help for relief and rehabilitation operation in the affected areas. “NDRF teams have arrived and rescue operations are going on war footing for shifting people from flooded area to safer zones,” he said.
Dr Singh informed that around 20 to 28 lakh people, who comprise 60 percent population of Manipur, have been affected by the natural calamity. On behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has expressed his sympathies with the affected people, I have assured   the Chief Minister of Manipur for all possible assistance in rescue and relief operations,” the MoS in PMO said and added that Rs 8.5 crore would be sanctioned immediately from the National Disaster Response Force fund for emergency relief work in the State.
Reiterating the Government of India’s commitment for overall development of North East, Dr Singh said that Naga peace accord would facilitate more development of the region. “Peace is requisite for any development and this was the reason that the Central Government has signed this historic accord with NSCN (I-M),” he added.
The Union Minister also assured that the Centre would not hurt the interests of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by disturbing their territorial integrity by implementing the peace accord.
After staying for a few hours in the State, both the Union ministers left Manipur for New Delhi.
