Dr Karan Singh devoted his life for Dogras welfare: Vikramaditya

JAMMU, Aug 8: Former Member of Legislative Council Vikramaditya Singh today termed as irresponsible the statement of Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh wherein he targeted Dr Karan Singh.
“I am shocked to read the vicious outburst by Dr Jitendra Singh against my father Dr Karan Singh, who is one of the most senior and respected leaders in India”, Vikramaditya Singh said, adding “the statement of Union Minister reflects his insecurity”.
“Had my father not accepted the office of Sadar-i-Riyasat, the Dogra presence would have completely disappeared from Kashmir region and, as subsequent events show, the national interest would have been seriously jeopardized.  His presence insured a continuity of the Dogras by holding constitutional office as Head of State”, the former MLC said, adding “to say that he (Dr Karan Singh) has damaged the reputation of the Dogra dynasty is outrageous”.
He further said, “not only was Dr Karan Singh the first Dogra Cabinet Minister in the Union Government, he has taken the reputation of the Dogra dynasty beyond the State to every corner of the country and even abroad, where he is widely respected as an outstanding thinker and scholar”.
Stating that naming of airports is not done by individual Ministers but by the Prime Minister, the former MLC said, “Dr Karan Singh has not blamed anybody but has made a suggestion to the Prime Minister that the Jammu airport should be named after Maharaja Hari Singh in whose time it was constructed and used”.
He asked why Dr Jitendra Singh and his party did not support the unanimous demand of the people of Jammu to declare Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday – 23rd September – as a public holiday, although they were full partners in the J&K Government for over three years.  “Why did they not bring this matter up in the Cabinet and press for its implementation despite giving assurances to the public”, he further asked.
