JAMMU, May 27: The 1st Invitational Volleyball League Championship for the youth of rural and far flung areas of District Reasi and the institutions of adjoining areas, organized by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra got underway at Sports Stadium, here today.
Dr MK Kumar, Additional CEO SMVDSB inaugurated the Championship in an impressive and well attended function. Mr Kumar, the chief guest on the occasion was introduced with participants and officials on the occasion, which was followed by the oath taking ceremony of the participating teams.
The inaugural match was played between the teams of Charayi and Agarjito. The team of Agarjito won the match by two sets to nil (2-0).
In his speech, the chief guest said that sports besides offering multitude of best and unique opportunities to the players, helps them to develop team spirit, technique and skill. He stressed upon the young players to take more and more benefit out of the facilities being extended to them by SMVDSB, Katra.
Earlier, Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB presented welcome address and said that SMVDSB is leaving no stone unturned in uplifting the standard of sports and games in the rural areas, adding that focusing the rural areas the teams from the remote areas of Mongri and Tote have been invited for the Invitational Tournament.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Pankaj Gupta, DS Bhau, Anil Sharma, Rajinder Singh, Rajan Gupta, PC Tanoch and AS Katoch, Principal Amba Kids School.
