JAMMU, Dec 30: Dr. Ritu Ahal, a renowned Dental Surgeon from Jammu, has made history by becoming the first woman from Jammu and Kashmir to achieve the prestigious Super Randonneur (SR) title. She accomplished this remarkable feat by successfully completing four long-distance cycling events-200 km, 300 km, 400 km, and 600 km rides-within the stipulated time limits in a single calendar year.
The rides were conducted under the guidelines of the Audax Club Parisien (ACP) – France, which organizes globally recognized Brevet de Randonneurs Mondiaux (B.R.M.) events.
To qualify for the Super Randonneur title, cyclists must finish all four distances (200 km, 300 km, 400 km, and 600 km) within a specified time limit in one season. Dr. Ahal completed these challenges as follows: 200 km on December 8, 2024, in 12 hours (Time Limit: 13.5 hours; Elevation: 468 m), 300 km on December 22, 2024, in 19 hours (Time Limit: 20 hours; Elevation: 904 m), 400 km on October 13, 2024, in 26.5 hours (Time Limit: 27 hours; Elevation: 12 m) and 600 km on November 9, 2024, in 39.5 hours (Time Limit: 40 hours; Elevation: 1900 m).
These Brevet rides are self-supported, meaning participants must rely solely on their resources, while navigating routes with defined checkpoints. Achieving SR status requires exceptional endurance, mental strength, and precise planning, qualities that Dr. Ahal exemplified.
Dr. Ahal, also the President of Women Do Ride and a key member of the Jammu Hill Sports Cycling Clubs, has received continued support from these organizations. Her younger son, Anshul Ahal, participated alongside her in the 200 and 300 km Brevets, completing both successfully.
