JAMMU, Jan 18: Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu (JU), today released a book titled “Banam-e-Taqi Abedi” in Prof Gian Chand Jain seminar hall of the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu.
The function was organized by the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu and was attended by galaxy of poets, writer, students, scholars and respectable citizens. The book based on the letter of towering Urdu writers to Taqi Abedi, a renowned Canadian Urdu writer, was complied in a book form by Dr Shehnaz Qadri, Assistant Professor, MAM College, Jammu.
The book release function was presided over by noted short story writer, Khalid Hussain while Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof Kedar Nath, was the guest of honour. On the occasion, Dr Taqi Abedi the honorary professor of the Department of Urdu, JU was also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof RD Sharma hoped that the new book of Dr Shehnaz will definitely provide the readers information about writing standard of Taqi Abedi as well as present scenario of Urdu language not only in sub-continent but also in Europe.
Prof Kedar Nath said that the author is not only the expert in Urdu but also knows other languages. Describing letters a great treasure, Dr Kedar Nath said that these provide information regarding the culture and civilization of the past when they were written.
Khalid Hussain, in his presidential address, described the book of Dr Shehnaz Qadri valuable one. He described her not only an Urdu writer but also a noble human being who has also attended various Inter-National and National seminars and also presented papers.
Earlier in his welcome address, HoD Urdu, Prof Shohab Inayat Malik discussed the importance of letters and present scenario of Urdu in J&K. He informed that a reputed poet of film world Gulzar has given his consent to visit the Jammu University in the month of April. He will interact with the students, scholars and respectable citizens of Jammu.
