JAMMU, Nov 27: In a landmark achievement, Dr. Varun Suthra has been appointed as a member of the FIVB Commission, a prestigious body under International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). The decision was finalized during the 39th FIVB World Congress, marking the beginning of the 2024-2028 Olympic cycle.
FIVB, the global Governing body for Volleyball, represents 222 member nations and is instrumental in shaping the sport’s future. Its Commissions advise on critical areas such as coaching, legal policies, medical sciences, and communication strategies. Dr. Suthra’s appointment highlights his exceptional leadership and commitment to international sports.
Expressing gratitude, Dr. Suthra credited Dr. Achyuta Samanta, former President of the Volleyball Federation of India, for his mentorship. He remarked, “This honour reflects India’s growing prominence in global sports governance.”
FIVB President Fabio Azevedo praised Dr. Suthra’s expertise, stating his contributions would enhance the Commission’s work. With over six years of experience in Indian and Swiss legislatures and active participation in global forums, Dr. Suthra is poised to bring valuable insights to FIVB’s mission.
