Drabu briefs Governor about GST implementation

SRINAGAR, Aug 10: Dr. Haseeb A. Drabu, Minister for Finance, Labour and Employment, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Dr. Drabu briefed the Governor about the implementation of GST in the State and apprised about the positive response of the business community in the migration to the new tax regime.
The Minister informed that the State Commercial Taxes and Excise Department has been oriented to perform an advisory and guidance role and has been tasked to organize State wide programmes regarding the shift over to GST Act and to assist the stakeholders about the provisions and procedure for migration to the new tax system. Dr. Drabu said that Government is making all out efforts to create a congenial environment and extend full support for promoting industrial growth in the State.
Dr. Drabu also discussed with Governor certain issues regarding effective fiscal management, and its direct co-relation with increased resource mobilisation, which is inescapable for advancing the pace of socio-economic development of the State.
Prof. R.D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu also called on Governor and briefed him about the challenges facing the functioning of the University and the initiatives taken in the past months, notwithstanding the constraints.
Governor advised Prof. Sharma to maintain sustained focus on quality teaching and research activities and bring up all major issues before the University Council.
