KARGIL, Feb 6: The Drass Winter Carnival 2024, known as (Jashn-e-Fateh) concluded at Vishwanathan Stadium (Old Polo Ground) here today organized by the Indian Army.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Lt Gen Rashim Bali, Crop Commander 14 Corps, who marked the culmination by inaugurating the closing ceremony with a symbolic Pug throw in the ground.
The event showcased a vibrant display of cultural diversity, featuring performances by Shina, Balti & Purgi troops, captivating the audience. Major General Sachin Malik, GOC 8 Mountain Division, DC Kargil Shrikant Suse, Councillor Bhim Bhat, Abdul Wahid, Councillor Drass Abdul Samad, and Brigadier Sumeet Abrol among other prominent figures were present along with a large number of spectators.
Sports enthusiasts witnessed thrilling competitions, with the Himalayan Hawks Red emerged as champions in Men’s Ice Hockey and Super Star Drass secured victory in Archery. In the women’s ice hockey category, Himalayan Red claimed the top spot, while Goshan Red secured the runner-up position.
A highlight of the event was the recognition of emerging women player Nuzhat from Drass, who expressed gratitude to the Indian Army for providing the opportunity to play ice hockey, enabling her to achieve national-level recognition. With the Indian Army playing a crucial role in providing opportunities for local talents, the Drass Winter Carnival 2024 celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship and community in addition to showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage.
