Driver arrested with 150 kgs poppy straw

SAMBA, May 31: The sleuths of Special Operation Group (SOG) Jammu and Police Station Samba arrested a driver along with 150 kilograms of poppy straw.
Divulging the details, SP Operation Vinay Sharma said that on reliable information, the sleuths of SOG Jammu and Police Station Samba headed by SHO Samba Inspector Chanchal Singh under the supervision of SSP Samba Anil Magotra laid a naka at Mansar Morh and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK03B-1109 to stop for checking.
“On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops intercepted the truck after a brief chase”, he said.
SP informed that during checking, the sleuths recovered 150 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver.
He stated that the accused has been identified as Mairaj Din, son of Abdul Aziz, a resident of Awantipora.
The accused was trying to smuggle the consignment from Awantipora to Punjab, but the police foiled his bid, SP Operations informed.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Samba Police Station and investigation started.
