BILLAWAR, Dec 22: Police arrested a truck driver along with 22 kilograms of poppy straw (Bhukki) from Ramkote area, falling under the jurisdiction of Billawar Police Station.
As per police sources, on specific information, police team from Ramkote Police Post laid a naka at Ramkote area and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK08A-2507 to stop, which was on its way from Srinagar to Kathua.
On seeing police party, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape from the spot, but the cops intercepted the truck near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 22 kilograms poppy straw (bhukki) from the truck and arrested the driver. The vehicle was also seized by the police.
The accused has been identified as Gurcharan Singh, son of Puran Singh, a resident of Rajbagh, district Kathua.
A case FIR under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Ramkote Police Post and investigations started.
Police team led by Gopal Dass, Choki Officer Ramkote made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Billawar police station.
