Drug Free Youth Winter Cup Open Cricket Tourney commences

JAMMU, Jan 5: Drug Free Youth Winter Cup 50-Over Open Cricket Tournament was inaugurated at Country Cricket Academy ground by the eminent educationist and writer, Maansi Sharma, near here today.
The opening match was played between Katra Cricket Club (KCC) Katra and Simula Cricket Club, Jammu.
After winning the toss, Katra Cricket Club elected to bat and scored a total of 179 runs in 43 overs. Shiva top scored with brilliant 78  runs, while Darshan and Sahil contributed 29 and 27 runs respectively. For Simula Club, Raman Dutta took 3 wickets, while Vikram, Kuldeep and Hardeep Singh bagged 2 wickets each. Vivek claimed one victim.
In reply, Simula rode on a brilliant innings of 66 runs by Satish Kumar after a disastrous start and chased the target easily to register first win of the tournament. Mohit also contributed valuable 44 runs, while Hardeep Singh and Shashi chipped in with 20 and 15 runs respectively.
Darshan took 4 important wickets for KCC, while Sahil, Prince, Raju and Andrew took one wicket each. Satish Kumar of Simula Club was declared as the man of the match.
The tournament is being organized by Vivek Sharma, former Ranji Trophy player.
