Drug peddler from Jallandhar lands in police net with poppy straw

JAMMU, Sept 1: Gangyal police under “Operation Sanjeevani” arrested a drug peddler hailing from Jallandhar along with 30 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki).
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team from Gangyal police station laid a naka at Kunjwani Chowk and signaled a car bearing registration number PBO7V-8249 which was coming from Narwal towards Bari Brahmana to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the vehicle was intercepted by the cops.
During checking, police recovered 30 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Vivek Kumar, son of Shub Karan of Jallandhar.
During questioning, the accused disclosed that he had brought the consignment from Srinagar for selling among the youth. With his arrest, police achieved a major success to save the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 63/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gangyal police station and investigation started to ascertain the other members involved in smuggling drugs.
It is to mention that this is the fifth catch of drugs in Sub-Division South during the past one week.
Police team led by SDPO South Mohammed Rafiq Manilas and Incharge Gangyal police station SI Vijay Sharma made the arrest under the supervision of SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
