JAMMU, May 26: Dental Surgeon Association (DSA) held a meeting under the chairmanship of its president Dr Asif Iqbal Chowdhary and discussed various problems being faced by them.
While speaking, Dr Chowdhary said that the strength of unemployed dental surgeons in the State is more than 1300 and every year more than 300 dental graduates pass from within or outside the State.
He added that from the last 6 years there has been no fresh recruitment of dental surgeons in the State and there has been no scope of dental surgeons in NRHM scheme of Central Government.
He said that the State Government must work in coordination with Central Government about this matter.
He urged the Government to frame proper policy to absorb the piling lot of dental graduates, notify posts in the corresponding PHCs, provide subsidized loans and scholarships to desirous and competent graduates to pursue their further studies (MDS) and for opening their self employed ‘dental clinics’, explore the idea of ‘Evening Clinics’ and recruit dental surgeons, open ‘Rural Clinics’ and ‘Dental units’, stop admissions to the course of dentistry for atleast few years, create more posts, etc.
Later, a team of DSA led by Dr Chowdhary met dental surgeons of IGGDC and listened to their problems.
Among others present were Dr Pawan Jasrotia, Dr Manoj Sharma, Dr Komal Sharma, Dr Navjot Singh, Dr Muzamil Khan, Dr Ambika Sudan, Dr Jahangir, Dr Anjum, Dr Vipasna Mahajan, etc.
