JAMMU, Jan 3: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today flagged off “Safe Rides, Save Lives” motorcycle rally – an initiative of traffic Police Jammu and Biker Brotherhood Team Jammu – from the Jammu University campus.
Around 2000 bikers from various parts of Jammu joined the rally which covered a distance about 20 KMs around the Jammu city.
DGP, K Rajendra, ADsGP, Navin Aggarwal, S M Sahai, Dilbag Singh, L Mohanty, IGPs, A K Choudhary, H K Lohia, Yoginder Koul, Danish Rana, Viplav Kumar, DIG Jammu, Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, all Jammu based SSPs and CEOs of Armed/IRP Battalions, prominent citizens, sports persons were present on the occasion.
While complementing the Police for organizing such type of events, the Deputy Chief Minister said awareness campaigns are of very important for creating a sense of discipline and adherence to various safety standards while driving. He said such campaigns also reiterate the importance of following the traffic rules and regulations.
Deputy Chief Minister said the people should strictly follow the traffic rules as these are imperative while driving on the roads besides also creating a sense of safety among the pedestrians. He said such awareness programmes should be a regular feature and held in other district headquarters, towns and villages as well.
Dr Singh said the youth should also be involved in these programmes as they constitute the bulk of the bikers, drivers and they have an important role in disseminating  the message about the safety standards and measures being undertaken while driving on the roads. They also constitute the major target group, he added.
Later, the rally culminated at Gulshan Ground Jammu where the DGP distributed certificates and mementos among the participants including Team Jammu, Bikers Club. He also gave a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and certificates to the organizers of scooter rally which was organized some time back at Srinagar.
In his address, DGP made a special mention for their outstanding participation in today’s bike rally and said that Team Jammu is working day and night and creating awareness among youth. While referring to recent rallies organized in Jammu and Rajouri by Team Jammu against drug menace in the society, DGP congratulated its chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal for such a noble cause. He assured full support to Team Jammu in its drive against drug mafia.
