DYSS, Sports Council to play pivotal role in making J&K a sports hub: Ansari

JAMMU, May 7: Lavishing praise on the State sportspersons who kept the State’s flag high in the recently held National Games at Kerala, where Jammu and Kashmir secured record number of 15 medals in the disciplines of Gymnastics, Boxing, Fencing, Wushu and Kayaking & Canoeing, the Minister for Sports, Imran Raza Ansari said that the dire need is to streamline the sports sector, adding that the elitist Sports Agencies of the State namely Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and J&K State Sports Council will have to play a pivotal role in making J&K a sports hub in near future. He said, for that matter, the mechanism will be devised to regularize various cadres of both these agencies to help them function effectively.
The Minister said this while chairing a review meeting of the Officers of Youth Services and Sports Department and J&K State Sports Council at PWD Guest House, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
Earlier, Navin Agarwal, Director General Youth Services and Sports and Secretary J&K State Sports Council briefed the Minister through PowerPoint presentation, about the programmes and policies of these Agencies.
While addressing the Officers, the Minister stressed upon the need to renovate the damaged equipment and infrastructure due to recent floods in the Valley and also impressed upon the need to have all weather swimming pools in Kashmir.
The Minister felt the need to organize a League Tournament of Mega Scale in Cricket at the State Level on the pattern of earlier held KPL and JPL.
He said help from J&K Police and Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) will be sought to make this cricketing extravaganza a grand success.
On the occasion, the Minister assured the employees of the J&K State Sports Council for all necessary help with regard to solution of their long pending problems, besides directing DYSS for giving incentives to those officers who perform better in promoting sports.
