SRINAGAR, June 1: In order to give a flip to the sports activities being carried out by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) throughout the year in all the three divisions of the State, Director General (DG) Jahangir Mir chaired a meeting of all the District Youth Services and Sports Officers (DYSSOs) of the Kashmir Division.
Mir was briefed about the ongoing sports activities in various districts of the region by the concerned district officers.
DG Sports directed his subordinate officers for adopting an unbiased approach while dealing with the selection of players in various games for different competitions.
He said J&K has crafted space on the country’s Sports Map by taking the medal tally to 38 with 5 Gold, 10 Silver and 23 Bronze medals in various National Level Events during the previous year. He also disclosed that 330 school playfields will be developed by the department during 2016-17 which will surely help in tapping and shaping the sports talent of school children of this State.
It was unanimously decided in the meeting that a separate calendar of activities will be issued and strictly followed to carry out the sports activities under newly launched Centrally Sponsored Scheme Khelo India in all the three regions of J&K.
It was also decided in the meeting that DYSS will organize a League Knock-out Tournament for student and non-student players of Kashmir Division in the near future.
While highlighting the need of such kind of sports activity, DG Sports stated that the time has come when every such person should get chance of proving his metal without the restrictions of being or not being on the rolls of any Educational Institution.
He directed all the DYSSOs to get all the interested student and non student players associated with the said Grand Tournament and get the talent of youth channelized in a positive manner.
Besides others Joint Director Kashmir DYSS Bashir Ahmed, Deputy Director Central DYSS Haji Mirza Hussain, AO, In-charge Press and Publicity and other senior officials of the Department were present in the meeting.
