In the list of 32 States of the country, J&K is positioned at 31st rank with 0.30% score. This is very depressing and speaks volumes of how much our State industries are lagging behind other states and how much has to be done to make the industries beneficial to the public or contribute to the public good. This was pointed out by no other person than the chairman CII J&K
State Council during a meeting of the organization. Consequently, the CII J&K State Council has advised the State Government to constitute a special task force that would expeditiously begin sincere efforts for the elevation of the State by enhancing the conditions to do business in the State. State has the potential to enhance its position in the list of ease of doing business. Though, the manufacturing and services sector is small but it is growing rapidly. Many Industrial promotional agencies such as SIDCO, SICOP, Small Industries Services Institute (SISI) and Directorate of Industries and Commerce perform various functions to foster industrialization in the State. The question is of making it easier to do business in the State. In that context perhaps there would be the need of bringing in some reforms in existing rules and norms so that even small scale industries are also attracted to do business in the State. May be the Government could think of offering a package of incentives to boos the phenomena of doing business. All that we would suggest is that the State Government should take the report as well as the guidelines of the CII J&K State Council into consideration and proceed along the accepted recommendations to make doing business easier.
