Leh, July 8: Sudden rise in temperature has resulted in increase in water flow in the streams and has affected fields and bridges at some places around Leh. Executive Councilor Tourism LAHDC Leh Mohammad Shafi visited the effected villages of Tashi-Gatsal, Saboo and Phyang to take stock of the damages and its nature.
At Tashi-Gatsal Choglamsar the water was diverted at a point that had caused the water to flow out of the stream and on which a JCB was immediately put to work to divert the direction of the water back into the stream on EC Shafi’s on spot direction. Following his direction three JCBs were put to work immediately for proper diversion of water flow into the stream.
Later, EC Shafi also visited Phyang village where Churgo-Thangnak foot bridge was washed away and head works at Chubi-Yartsey, Pholung, Styangs, Pharka yurgo, Lharjey Chongston yurgo, and Churgo-Thangjuk were also damaged by the sudden rise in water flow. Listening to the grievances of the villagers Shafi gave directions to XEn I&FC and concerned officials to start the work from tomorrow at these places so that water flow can be stopped from damaging the head works which in-return would ruin the fields by entering them.
On his way back from Phyang, EC Shafi also visited Spituk Galden Targesling Gonpa to take stock on the on-going works for Dalai Lama’s visit to Leh during the end of this month and urged upon the need to prioritize the work that needs to be completed at earlier level.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue Leh Ghulam Ahmed, Councilor Phyang Tsering Sonam, Executive Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control (PWD) Leh Tsering Angchuk and concerned officials also accompanied the EC Tourism.
