JAMMU, Mar 29: Describing education as back bone of the nation, former Minister and MLA Priya Sethi said that education plays an important role in overall development of society and universalization of education needs to be given due attention for development of nation and society on the whole.
She said the central government has tagged the education sector as an important sector and the state is receiving full support from the union government in furthering the cause of education in the state.
“In my tenure as Education Minister we had initiated wide ranging changes in the education sector in the state and our resolve was to fine-tune the sector as per requirements of modern day job market,” she added.
Priya was speaking at the annual day function of the DBN Higher Secondary School, Mubarak Mandi here today. She was chief guest on the occasion.
Principal Indu Puri, Director Suresh Sharma, Manager Rajinder Kakar, Advisor Yash Puri, faculty members, parents and students were also present during the annual day function.
Appreciating role of private institutions in spreading quality education, Priya said that the state is proud of have best private schools and children are imparted quality education in these institutions. She said the private schools are playing a positive role in the education sector and children get modern education facilities in these schools.
She called upon the private institutions to extend helping hand to those children who cannot afford education by adopting students from the poor and needy sections of the society.
Priya said that the PDP-BJP coalition government had started a revolution in the field of education and a multi pronged approach was followed to watch the interest of all the stakeholders in the education sector.
She said transparent transfer policy, modern education policy, improved education infrastructure were some of the priorities on which the government was working.
Later-on, the chief guest distributed prizes among the meritorious students of the school.
