JAMMU, Oct 21: More educational institutions including Government and private owned today celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights, in their school premises. Various events and competitions were organized for the students.
Students and staff of KCS College of Education (Women), Jammu, celebrated festival of lights with great enthusiasm in the college campus. The chairperson of the college along with the students and staff offered prayers to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi while enlightening the candles. The students decorated their class rooms with flowers and rangolis. The program ended with distribution of sweets among the staff and students.
One-day Diwali Mela was organized in Government College of Education, Canal Road (Jammu) to celebrate Diwali festival through variety of event bonaza to spread the message of peace, oneness, happiness and prosperity. The program was organized by NSS unit of the college and inaugurated by Principal, Prof (Dr) Ajeet Angral and DIET, Jammu, Mohinder Kumar. The major attraction of the program was exhibition of Diwali cards, diyas, gift boxes, variety of games and food counters for staff and students.
Delhi Public School (DPS), Jammu celebrated Diwali by organizing a series of inter-section competitions like soft board, diya making, poster making and rangoli competition in the school premises. The theme given to the students for poster making was “Swachh Diwali”. An inter-class cricket match between Class XI and XII was also organized on the occasion. Principal, Dr D Joseph and Headmistress, Ruchi Chabra conveyed her best wishes to all on the festive occasion of Diwali.
In order to mark the festivity, DPS Leh organizes inter-house rangoli competition in the school premises. Using eco-friendly colours, the students of all the four houses viz Gandhi, Nehru, Tagore and Bhagat, made beautiful and elegant rangolis. The students of Bhagat House were adjudged as winners of the competition. Principal, Subhash Kumar Baldotra, appreciated the efforts of the students and asked them to participate in every competition with same zeal.
The Diwali celebrations were kicked off in Springdales School, Barnai with prayers to God Ganesha and Goddess Laxmi. Thereafter, students of kindergarten sang rhymes about Diwali while students of primary classes spoke about Diwali and its significance. Besides, rangoli making and diya decoration competitions were also organized in which students actively participated. The program ended with sharing of sweets with each other.
Jammu Sanskriti School celebrated Diwali with the gleam of diyas and echo of chants. The festival was celebrated by organizing inter-class rangoli competition for classes V- VIII. The students also showcased their skills in Diwali crafts like making of paper lanterns and diya decorations with the help of beads, sparkles, etc. Earlier, a special assembly was organised in the school premises which started with Saraswati Vandana followed by various cultural items presented by the students. Principal cum vice chairperson, Rohini Aima and chairperson, Harpreet Singh Anand wished one and all a very happy Diwali.
The Diwali festival was celebrated in Jammu Public School, Sainik Colony, by organizing a rangoli competition. The students displayed their skills by making colourful and elegant rangolis and the winners among them were awarded with prizes. The principal of the institution distributed sweets among the students and staff members and wished them a peaceful and prosperous Diwali.
Shiva Public Higher Secondary School, Digiana, organized a rangoli and card making competition on the eve of Diwali. The winners were awarded by the principal, Chanchal Kumari. Earlier, the celebrations started with Saraswati Vandhana. In his speech, principal emphasized the need for an environmental friendly Diwali. In the end, sweets were distributed among the students.
Calliope School, Doomi (Jammu) celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights, with great enthusiasm and religious fervor. On this occasion, an inter-House diya decoration competition was organised. Students participated with great zeal and decorated colourful diyas. A special programme was organized in which students were encouraged to celebrate safe and cracker free Diwali. The winners of diya decoration competition were awarded and sweets distributed among the students.p
A function was also organized in Government Boys Middle School, Nagrota (Udhampur), in connection with Diwali. The function started with a speech by Headmaster, Rajesh Sharma, who highlighted various facts about Diwali Festival. Later, the students in the supervision of staff members and presence of Village Committee members fired crackers. The sweets were also distributed among the students.
AK Vidyamandir and Premier Institute of Education, Gandhi Nagar (Jammu) in a joint venture held a signature campaign for celebrating Swachh Diwali. About 400 children participated in this campaign and took oath to celebrate pollution and noise free Diwali and follow ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’. The director of the institute, Bhawna Sharma, wished everyone a happy Diwali and advised the students to ask their friends and relatives also to celebrate crackers free Diwali.
The students of Euro Kids and TS Public School celebrated the festival of lights with gaiety and religious fervor. Diya making and rangoli competitions were also organized in which children enthusiastically participated. The winners were awarded by chairperson, Pooja Malhotra, who blessed the children and also distributed sweets among them.
Little Millennium Pre Schools celebrated joy of giving week and Diwali in its schools at Roop Nagar and Gandhi Nagar by organizing a function for distribution of blankets, woolens, edible items and other necessary articles to the flood affected people of village Malkachak in Mandal Block and village Halqa in Marh Block. The function started with traditional Laksmi Pujan and storytelling to the children about the festival followed by poster making competition on the theme ‘Safe and Environment Friendly Deepavali’.
Mother’s Pride & Joy, a pre-school, celebrated Diwali in a unique way, as children and mothers dressed gaily in ethnic wear danced on the tunes of drum. They lighted diyas and candles and performed Lakshmi Pooja. Various events and games were organized for the mothers and children and surprise gifts were given to the winning mothers. The mothers and kids along with the staff took pledge to make this Diwali cracker and pollution free.
Vasudeva Kindergarten, Gandhi Nagar, celebrated the festival of Diwali by organizing a rangoli competition in the school premises. The students actively participated in the competition and made colourful rangolis. Principal, Satya Thakur, distributed sweets among the students and wished them a happy and prosperous Diwali.
Principal, Government Degree College, Thanna Mandi flagged off an anti cracker rally from the college campus in presence of Prof AR Qadri HOD Urdu, Prof Saleem Ayaz Rather Programme officer NSS, Prof Junaid HOD Evs and other staff members. Holding banners and placards denouncing the use of crackers as they not only pollute the environment but are also harmful to human beings and animals, large number of students participated in the rally, which started from college campus and culminated at SDM Office Thannamandi, wherein SDM Thannamandi Ashwani Kumar addressed the students.
