Eight booked under COPTA

JAMMU, May 13: Eight persons were today booked by Health and Sanitation Wing of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) under COPTA Act 2003 and a fine of Rs 800 was realized from the defaulters.
They were booked during a drive launched by Health and Sanitation Wing under the supervision of Health Officer, Dr Mohd Saleem Khan at various public places in and around Jammu City. The drive was launched on the directions of JMC Commissioner, Kiran Wattal.
The team also inspected various food establishments at Mahesh Pura Chowk, KC Morh, Rehari Colony, Railway Road, Trikuta Nagar, Panama Chowk and seized about 19 Kg of polythene carry bags. A fine of Rs 8300 was also imposed on defaulters.
Moreover, the team lifted food samples of Tomato Ketchup (Kissan Brand) and Refined Soyabin Oil from Rehari Colony and sent to Food Analyst Jammu for analysis.
Meanwhile, the JMC has advised all the Food Business Operators not to sell any type of unhygienic food items not conforming to prescribed quality and standards.
