VARASNASI:Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s one-day visit to his parliamentary constituency tomorrow.
The last visit of the Prime Minister on June 28 had to be cancelled on the last moment due to heavy rains.
The elite security group of SPG have have already taken charge of the security of the PM’s visit when he will attend two functions at BHU and then at the DLW besides meeting the intellectuals of the city at the airport before leaving for New Delhi.
The entire route of the PM would be sealed before his arrival tomorrow at around 1500 hours. Snipers along with CCTV cameras would be deployed all through the route of the PM. Mr Modi is expected to leave for New Delhi at around 1945 hours.
Mr Modi would also address a gathering after inaugurating the trauma centre at BHU and launching the integrated power development scheme (IPDS) of Union energy ministry along with two projects of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
Meanwhile, apprehending rains during the programme, the district authorities have made arrangements to deal with the situation.
On the other hand, Union power ministry has also engaged Powergrid Croporation of India engineers to cope with the rain fury. The corporation has sent a team of engineers, officials and a Haryana-based contractor to tackle any exigency thrown up by the rain god. The team is erecting water and fire proof aluminum frame polygon giant tents and improving the drainage system of Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) sports ground.
The district administration will maintain roads for Prime Minister’s fleet in case heavy rains ground choppers. In the past, two visits of the Prime Minister were cancelled due to Nature’s fury. The visit on October 14, 2014, to inaugurate the multi-speciality trauma centre of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was cancelled owing to Hudhud cylone. Non-functional trauma centre was cited as another reason. The June 28, 2015 visit was cancelled due to heavy rain.
Though the preparations were again afoot at DLW ground since the past week, Powergrid’s chairman and managing director RN Nayak and district magistrate Pranjal Yadav reviewed the preparations on daily basis following waterlogging in sports ground after heavy rain last week. The Powergrid officials said that drains of the ground were cleared to end waterlogging. They said that DLW township drains were choked at the point of merger with city’s main drainage system. Later, the DM asked Varanasi Municipal Corporation to solve the problem. DLW, VMC and Jal Kal were asked to arrange water pumps and minimum 100 sanitary staff in two shifts each at the ground to clear any waterlogging. Arrangements for landing of choppers of PM’s fleet have been made at BHU and DLW. In case heavy rains grounds choppers at LBS International Airport, the PM would move by road to BHU and DLW, said the DM. (UNI)
