JAMMU, Apr 30: Former Minister and member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil described election boycott call given by separatists as very unfortunate and an undemocratic step which will once again facilitate corrupt people to occupy centre stage in the State through malpractice.
He said this, while addressing a gathering at Panzala Rafiabad today.
Vakil reiterated that dialogue is the best and only way to obtain solution to any vexed problem in a peaceful way. He also mentioned that separatists would do a favour to them by desisting from resorting to undemocratic means and allow people to strengthen democratic process and elect their representatives as per their wish so that they do not suffer for want of basic amenities.
He urged separatists to give up nagging attitude as Congress party has always welcomed and preferred dialogue over “Bullet for Ballet” policy and would welcome them wholeheartedly, if they return to the table for resolving the Kashmir issue. He said that Centre is keen to re-engage separatists for finding an honorable solution of Kashmir problem.
Vakil said that Congress is committed to empower Panchayats in the State for which it would fight for incorporation of provisions of 73rd Amendment of Constitution of India in the Panchayati Raj Act.
Vakil stressed upon the Chief Minister to act tough and bring in some kind of transparency, accountability and credibility in the system if it intends to survive next Assembly elections.
Among others who addressed the gathering were senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Shah, Haji Mohammad Afzal Khan and Brij Mohan Nehru.
