Election boycott may encourage corrupt: Vakil

Excelsior Correspondent
SRINAGAR, Nov 11: Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Ghani Vakil today welcomed the views expressed by some separatist leaders particularly Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who has said that holding of elections in the State have not bearings on the Kashmir issue because forming of Government is vital for managing the State affairs particularly in resolving the grievances and problems of common masses.
Addressing public meetings Balhama and Gonipora in Rafiabad (Baramulla) today, Mr Vakil said there is no logic in opposing the election boycott  in Kashmir as it may only strengthen  and encourage the corrupt people who are used to loot  the State exchequer. He termed this poll boycott campaign as unfortunate and against the wishes of the people.
Mr Vakil urged upon the Government to take  immediate steps  for empowerment of Panchayats. He said delay in this process will be undemocratic  and will render  Panchayat elections meaningless. He claimed that Congress has strengthened its base in all the three regions of the State and the party will emerge powerful in the coming elections.  He said Congress was capable of contesting elections at its own without any trucks with any party but the final decision on the issue will be taken by the party high command.
