Empowering Indian women

Deya Kangan
Woman is  the most  powerful  and  the  most pious  human being in this  Universe. Women in our country are worshipped as goddesses  and  its  not  in the  present  context  but  from the ancient  time. Our  country has always  been the land  of  various  mythological beliefs and in those times our women folk  was much more  courageous , had  valour  and at that  times  were known for  their  beauty and bravery. But  the  misogynistic  thinking  of men was  very  much prevalent  from that period . Our  society  was  very much male dominated. With the  passage  of  time the  outlook also  began to  change  but  not  that  much as  it  should  be.
In a  country like  India  there are various  social  taboos  which  we  women have  to  face  and come  across  almost every day. In our country  educating  a woman regarding  all the basic  aspects  is  still a  far  cry  due  to  social conservation. All the  women across  various  countries have  to  face the  pathetic situation and its  only because of the  lack  of  basic  amenities  due  to which  women  feel contemptuous. But  as  we  see  the  world  is moving  on the path  of development  and progress,  the  things  regarding the empowerment  of a  women are  increasing  at a  high  pace. India  is  a  country  where  these issues  are slow  to come  up due to  various factors like  illiteracy and other social taboos. Women in India  are  considered  to  be  hovering around and doing all the  domestic chores and  fulfilling  all the  duties  of  her  family and in this  compromises  her  dreams  and passion for other  fields. Talking  about the  issues  like  child marriages, it s a  great menace  for  the  society  and can be found  in certain parts  of  our  country , girls  get married  during their  child phase  only, other issues of menstrual hygiene  is  still far  cry  for  our country  woman folk. A woman  during  her  period is not  allowed   to  enter  kitchen, worship and even said  to  sit and sleep  on the  floor  because  a  woman is  considered  to be  impure  during  these  days  and  this  is preposterous. But unfortunately  this practice is quite  prevalent in our  country. Even the  basic sanitary  pacs are not  available  in  rural India, this is  because  of   poverty.  They  use  cotton clothes  which is  quite  unhygienic  and gives a nasty  feeling. There is  also the common notion that  a woman has to  hide all  these  happening  to  her  body but it a natural phenomenon and  this   thing  seems to be  very  outrageous. A population of a country  is only  prosperous  when its  gives  rights  to  its  women folk.
There  is  a high percentage of  women dying  due to use  of  cotton clothes during  her  menstrual cycle. Female feticide  is  yet  another  pervasive practice  in India.  Female is  considered  to  be a  burden on its  kin. A female child  is  not wished  at the  time  of  her  birth  due  to  reasons  like  dowry  female  trafficking,  rapes. To avoid  all  such issues  people avoid  birth of a  girl child. There  are  various  stringent  laws  by  which a woman can get  equal  rights  as men . Illiteracy  is  the  biggest  factor  affecting  the life  of  women badly especially  in rural areas. Its  due  to  orthodox way of  living  and mentality  of the  people. A women if  educated  is  independent and  could  live on her  own rules , but  due  to conservative society    these  things  are  still considered as a  big issue. If a woman is  educated  the  whole nation  is  educated  as various  generations are produced though  a  woman only..There  are  superfluous aspects  in which a woman is  bound  , but  has  to  get  out  of  it and achieve  something  in her  life. Talking  about  feminism is  still a  wider term in our  country  and always  taken in a  wrong  manner. Its  a common notion  that a   woman is only  a material to be  kept  inside  the four  wall  of a room and a  serenading thing  to  the people. But  woman is  quite  susceptible  of  doing  every  task  with  great  patience  and perfection.
A woman can be  empowered in many ways  provided  she is  given opportunity in all spheres, various  vocational training must  be  given to  the  women folk  so that  they could  earn a  living  on their  own will power  and  tenacity .Govt  should  take some  measures to control various heinous  crimes  against  women and provide all the  basic  materials of  sanitation and hygiene  to women   at  less  and affordable costs  especially  to remote  and  rural   women. Women  can also to  be  educated  through various educational programs   conducted  through NGO’s  or  by  various  Govt.  persons  and officials and women should also  participate  enthusiastically. Now it’s  high  time  to  come of  the  conservative  thinking and let  women shine in every  sphere of  life.If a woman is  truly  liberated  then a nation could  become  powerful.
