This refers to the news item ‘Enhance reservation quota for other social castes DE dated 22.07.2017 wherein Dr. Narinder Singh has suggested lot of things regarding reservartion after touring the border areas of the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri, North and Central Kashmir and observed the ground reality while interacting with the office bearer and workers. He emphasised for.
The residents of LOC, International Border be provided 10 percent reservation in jobs. Rotation of reserved Assembly constituencies on the lines of reserved seats for Schedule caste, political reservation to ST as the State has large population of STs.
He also suggested that State needs to revisit and reframe the reservation being provided to different sections of the society on the basis of ground reality in J&K. He floated the idea of providing reservation to OBC’s as is in place in the whole country in this regard. For J&K OBCs Mr Singh specifically suggested enhancement of reservation quota under other social caste (OSC) to include OBCs from 02 percent to 09 percent as this will benefit all weaker sections of the State.
He specifically suggested the curtailment of Backward Area Reservation from 20 percent to 05 percent and it should be provided to those who actually reside in backward area at that point of time of availing reservation.
The suggestions as made by the General Secretary need to be taken into the consideration by the Government in the interest of these communities. It will indeed be a great step towards empowerment of these sections of society.
