Encounter ensues between militants, security forces in south Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Nov 13:
A fierce encounter ensued between militants and security forces in south Kashmir district of Kulgam, going to polls in the second phase on December 2, official sources said here today.
They said on specific intelligence input about presence of militants in the area, a joint team of Army and J&K police launched a search operation at village Channigam Frasal in Kulgam.
However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons. Security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.
Reinforcement was rushed to the area to further tighten the cordon, they said, adding no casualties were reported so far.
The encounter comes two day after unidentified gunmen opened fire near the house of Ghulam Hassan Zargar, who has been given mandate by BJP for Kulgam seat. (AGENCIES)
