Engagement of coaches has to be done in transparent manner: DB

JAMMU, Oct 25: Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul has directed that the engagement of coaches has to be done in a transparent manner by properly issuing advertisement to invite applications.
With this direction the DB closed the Public Interest Litigation highlighting certain deficiencies with regard to reports facilities in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“In order to improve the sports facilities several orders were passed from time to time directing the authorities to take certain steps for the improvement of infrastructure. Various Action Taken Reports are already on record. A perusal of these reports do reveal that sincere efforts have been made for the improvement of the sports facilities in Srinagar and elsewhere”, the DB said.
During the course of hearing Amicus Curiae submitted that in view of the material on record, the respondents have done a commendable job and that the infrastructure in respect of sports has improved a lot. He further submitted that as on date proper steps for engaging good coaches is required to be taken.
On this, the DB said, “the respondents are not denying to engage proper coaches in whatever discipline of the sport as per requirement as such we direct that the engagement of coaches has to be done in a transparent manner by properly issuing advertisement to invite applications”, adding “the purpose of initiation of this Public Interest Litigation has outlived its utility and there is not much to be done in regard to the improvement of the sports facilities”.
