JAMMU, Feb 11: Engineers XI and JK Bank Academy registered victories over their rivals to advance in the ongoing 4th Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament, being organized by Narinder Gupta, Senior Congress Leader and Member J&K State Sports Council, here today.
21 teams from within and outside the State are participating in the Tournament.
Earlier, in the first match, Engineers XI defeated Young Star Football Club by six goals to five (6-5) via tie-breaker. Both the teams scored two goals each in the stipulated time, with Nawang Stenzin pelting both the goals for Engineers XI in 11th and 34th minutes, while Shezan Malik and Stenzin were the goal scorers for Young Star, netting them in 15th and 22nd minutes respectively.
Then, in the tie-breaker, Tashi Gyalpo, Stanzin, Nwang Stanzin and Stanzin Othbal succeeded in scoring goals for Engineers XI and Jigmit Nurboo failed in his attempt, while Randhir Singh, Niteshwar Singh and Rahul Singh netted goals for Young Star in the tie-breaker. Sanjay Kumar and Stanzin failed to score goals for Young Star, to help Engineers XI register a close (6-5) win. For foul play, Yellow Card was shown to Tanveer Singh of Young Star in 35th minute.
In another match played today, JK Bank Academy defeated Young Rovers by three goals to nil (3-0). The first goal was scored by Arjun in 20th minute, while Aqib Mushtaq and Parveen Kumar pelted second and third goal in 47th and 56th minutes respectively. For dangerous play, Navjeet Singh of Young Rovers was shown Red Card, Yellow Cards were seen to Nirdosh, Sahil Moman and Arjun of JK Bank Academy and Rahul Verma of Young Rovers.
The matches were officiated by Suresh Kumar Gupta, Moon Stephen, Kushey Kumar, Rohit Gupta, Rakesh Kumar, Rickey Kumar and Koushal Kumar.
JK SRTC will take on Air Force at 1 pm, Vijay Club will lock horns with Young Heroes at 3 pm tomorrow.
