SRINAGAR, Aug, 20: Former Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Government, Housing and Urban Development Department, Engineer Ghulam Hassan Vaida, who had also served as Chief Engineer for a long duration, passed away this afternoon after a brief spell of illness.
Engineer Vaida was one of the pioneering engineers of the state who did his civil engineering from AMU and was appointed as an Assistant Engineer in 1947. He went on to do his post graduation from France. He retired as Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Housing and Urban Development Department in 1980-81.
A large number of mourners joined the Nimaz-e-Jinazah near Masjid-e-Ibrahim, Hyderpora Ibrahim Colony, Hyderpora, Airport Road-NH By Pass Intersection.
His body was laid to rest by the side of the grave of his wife in the Ibrahim Colony it-self. According to the family Chahrum will be observed on Friday.
