MENDHAR, Apr 10: A former legislator (Ex-MLC) and senior PDP leader M R Qureshi was injured after he was attacked by some National Conference activists in the town here this evening.
Reports said the incident took place when the PDP leader was returning to his residence at Mendhar at around 6 pm after visiting various polling stations in the segment. Some NC workers who had assembled near the house of another local senior NC leader Javed Rana allegedly pelted stone on the vehicle Qureshi. Upon this, the PDP activists also turned violent and retaliated.
The situation became tense and the SHO Mendhar Bishnesh Kumar along with some force rushed there. A PSO of Mr Rana was also hurt in the retaliation from the other side. The police controlled the situation but tension continued there in the town till late evening. Qureshi was removed to Mendhar hospital with head injury and later referred to GMC Jammu. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
