Ex-MS GB Pant chargesheeted

SRINAGAR, Oct 8: State Government today said that the enquiry officer asked to probe the causes of new born/infant death at the G B Pant hospital here has submitted its report to the Government and a charge sheet has been issued against Dr. Javed Choudhary, then Medical Superintendent of the hospital.
In his reply to the clubbed question of Bashir Ahmad Magray and Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Rajinder Singh Chib said that no action whatsoever has been taken in the causes of death so far. He said the High Court has barred the Government from taking any action as Dr. Javed has gone to the court for seeking justice.
“Director SKIMS-Soura, the enquiry officer has submitted his report and it is lying with the Government. As of now no action has been taken and this is possible only after the outcome of the OWP 880/2012 CMP 1497/2012 in the case titled Dr. Javed Choudhary versus State and others,” said Chib. He said that 636 children have died in the hospital during the first eight months of this year.
Chib said that in 2008, 830 children died at the hospital while as the number was 594, 882 and 886 for 2009, 2010 and 2011 respectively. He said the Government has taken many steps to prevent death of children at the hospital. These, he said, include administrative changes, deployment of manpower in coordinated manner, provision of additional drugs and strict implementation of JSSK schemes under NRHM.
“Provision of additional para-medical staff through SSB and on academic arrangement basis has been taken up. Provision of additional sophisticated machinery/equipments has been taken up. Strict enforcement of hospital infection control measures has been taken up. Face lift and refurbishing of supportive services such as uninterrupted power supply, oxygen supply, new stand by diesel generator, repair and renovation of bath rooms/ toilets has also been taken up,” said Chib.
PDP MLC Murtaza Ahmad Khan, in his supplementary said that a single doctor should not be targeted and action should be taken against all the doctors and the other staff held responsible for the deaths of the infants. Syed Rafiq Shah said that Dr. Javed has been made a scapegoat while as the guilty have been let off by the Government.
