Excise Deptt holds painting competitions on ‘Drug Addiction is an invitation to Death & Destruction

JAMMU, May 22: Jammu and Kashmir Excise Department in collaboration with J&K Wine Traders/Bar along with Hotel and Restaurants Association today organized painting competitions on the theme “Drug Addiction is an invitation to Death and Destruction”, in different Excise Ranges of the State under its ongoing Mega Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse. The idea of organizing such programmes under social responsibility is brainchild of Dr Haseeb Drabu, Finance Minister.
More than 2,000 students hailing from various schools took part in the painting competitions held at various venues falling under different Excise Ranges. The painting competition at Kala Kendra was also attended by Jammu Wine Traders Association members headed by President Charanjit Singh.
Two students from each Public and Private Schools were called for participation in the competitions under two different categories including Class I to VI and Class VII to XII. Thus, the competition witnessed the participation of 119 students from Samba, 100 from Kathua, 99 from Rajouri, 210 from Udhampur, 70 from Doda, 270 from Leh, 80 from Srinagar, 110 from Anantnag and 50 from Baramulla.
The paintings justifying the theme of the competition would be analyzed by the department and the winners would be announced by the department shortly. A mega event would be organized by the department to honour the winners of various competitions held under its Mega Awareness Programme. The winner of this competition will be given a cash prize of Rs 4,000 while as runner-up will get Rs 3,000. The third position holder will get a cash prize of Rs 2,000 and consolation prizes of Rs 1,000 will also be given to two outstanding performers in the different categories.
DEC Leh, Tashi Dolma, ETOs Shamim Rather, Salim Akbar, Sajjad Ahmad Sofi, Naem Ur Rehman Mughal, Virinder Pawar, Tinna Mahajan, Sandeep Gupta, Naresh Koul, Gurdev Kumar and Sheeraz Ahmed were appointed as nodal officers at their respective Excise Ranges for smooth conduct of the painting competition.
