JAMMU, July 11: Five members team of Tawi Trekkers J&K today successfully completed a short trekking expedition from Mcleodganj to Triund- a serene meadow situated at an altitude of over 10,000 ft in the Dhauladhar range of Himalaya in Himachal Pradesh.
The trek started from Mcleodganj- the seat of HH the Dalai Lama, led by Sumit Khajuria, enjoyed the trek to Triund in three phases. For the first 3 kilometres it was an enjoyable walk on a motor-able road, amidst the calm and cool pines up to Dharamkot, popularly called mini Israel because of the presence of large number of Israeli tourists in the area, whereas the next 3.5 km trek to Gallu temple was also a road walk but the road at many places was in such a dilapidated condition that the trekkers had to focus more on placing their steps at the right spots than enjoying the beautiful scenery around.
The next 6.5 kilometres rocky trail, non-existent at some places, to Triund was quite unique. It was tiring to some extent but very enjoyable through mixed forest of deodar, oak and rhododendron.
The trekkers reached Triund at about 2 pm after completing the 13 kms trek in 5.5 hours. “The beautiful rugged meadow presents an excellent camping sight which commands a panoramic view of whole Kangra valley especially Dharamshala town on one side and Dhauladhar mountain range on the other,” the trekkers said.
