SRINAGAR, May 29: The field executives of Legal Metrology Department under the supervision of Deputy Controller Kashmir during a routine inspection of different markets of Srinagar city booked a gas agency for offering for sale the expired cooking gas cylinders.
Under Liquefied Petroleum Gas Cylinder Rules, every LPG cylinder is to be retested periodically before supplying it to the consumers. Two cylinders were seized and detained by Inspector Cirle-2 Srinagar as their retest date has expired in the 2nd quarter of 2011 and 3rd quarter of 2012. The retest date is mentioned on one of the stems of the cylinder in the alpha numerical form.
The sale of refill cylinders whose mandatory retest date has expired is hazardous to life and property of the consumer and attracts penal provisions under Consumer Protection Act/Essential commodities Act. The Plant Manager of the Bottling Plant has been directed to explain the lapse.
