JAMMU, Oct 15: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri, while expressing his satisfaction over the decision by Union Ministry of Home Affairs of extending powers of Border Security Force (BSF) in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and its jurisdiction in Punjab, West Bengal and Assam, said that the move will help forces nail smugglers of arms, ammunition and even banned drugs besides arrest infiltrators who sneak into this side of the fence to carry out their subversive activities.
Raman Suri said that BSF was already unearthing tunnels all along borders and making shocking revelations by arresting narcotic smugglers with contrabands worth crores of rupees meant to be smuggled into this side of the fence, and now their extended powers in Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh to execute operations of search, seizure and arrest will further empower them to nail these anti-national and anti-social elements, who are trying to play with lives of innocent youth by making them addicted to drugs.
The entire country, particularly Jammu and Kashmir, he added, has already paid a heavy price for laxity in dealing with these smugglers but these extended powers will now make about 2.65 lakh personnel, guarding over 6,300 Indian fronts with Pakistan and Bangladesh, keep an eye over smugglers and nail them. He said that increasing arms trafficking, infiltration and smuggling of narcotics here in UT made MHA to issue this order, which is highly appreciable in cleansing the UT of this menace of drug peddling.
The BJP J&K Executive Member said that such decisions of MHA reflect how serious the Government is in dealing with cross border smuggling of arms, ammunition, drugs and even militants, who now will be nailed and eliminated by BSF. The country, he added, is in very safe hands and unlike past, is not giving a free run to the ultras and even smugglers. Raman Suri said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s resolve to cleanse the system of muck and dawn peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir is evident from the fact that he is personally monitoring every activity in the UT.
