Faculty of Basic Science in SKUAST-J to become fully operational from this session

JAMMU, June 26: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu, has decided to make the Faculty of Basic Science fully operational from academic year 2013-14.
Decision in this regard was taken during a   meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of the SKUAST Vice-Chancellor Prof D K Arora.
The meeting was attended by Director Extension, Director Research, Director Education, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Coordinator, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Officers and Scientists of the University who held threadbare discussions and interactions for making the Faculty fully operational.
Prof R K Gupta, Coordinator, made a power point presentation on PG programmes (existing & new) of Faculty of Basic Sciences.
It was decided in principle by house to make this Faculty fully operational with existing Divisions like Economics & Statistics, Biochemistry & Plant Physiology and Sericulture under one umbrella with ongoing M Sc  & Ph D degree programmes in Economics, Statistics, Biochemistry and Sericulture on partly self-financed mode from the Academic year 2013-14.
New PG degree programmes identified in the Faculty for operation on self-financed mode in phased manner include Microbiology; Genomics & Molecular biology; Environmental Sciences & Climate change; and Computer Applications. The university will start new M Sc Microbiology programme on self-financed mode in the forthcoming Academic session 2013-14.
These programmes will improve skill of students making them competitive to address needs of society in terms of inclusive growth, food security and environment safety besides increasing employability.
