UDHAMPUR, Feb 11: Demanding fair compensation and repair of their damaged property, the affected families whose residences come under new alignment of Chenani-Sudhmahadev road, today resisted demolition of some structures.
Due to the construction activities and cutting of land for Chenani- Sudhmahadev Second Bridge by SR Company, many adjoining houses have developed cracks. Owners of the affected houses, namely Baldev Singh, Joginder Singh Kotach, Rajinder Singh and others of Ward number 9, Luar Kud, village Aencha, have demanded that the Government should give them compensation at the earliest and repair cracks in the buildings.
The construction work on 16.6 km long Chenani- Sudhmahadev road is being executed by National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) and the work has been sub let by SR Company. Locals alleged that they haven’t been paid any compensation by Government/company for the last two year.
The protesting villagers of Ward number 9 staged a protest demonstration and raised slogans against the district administration Udhampur and officials of National Highway Authority of India. They said that many times officials of Tehsil and some employees of the construction company visited them but till date no compensation has been released.
Later, Parvaiz Naik SDM Chenani, DGM (NHIDCL), Naib Tehsildar Chenani SHO Chenani and other officers reached the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring necessary action over their demands following which the people lifted the road blockage.
According to SDM Parvaiz Naik, National Highway Authority acquired additional 70 kanal land for about 6 km road due to change in alignment. All documents for the land compensation and required repair work due to the road cutting etc have been prepared and the file has been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner office Udhampur, he added.
