SRINAGAR, Feb 20: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah today praised Prime Minister Modi and thanked him for the train to Sangaldan.
Abdullah who attended the flagging ceremony of the train from Srinagar Railway Station praised the PM and Railway Minister.
“It is a significant step, and I want to congratulate the Railway Ministry and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making it possible. I also want to congratulate all the railway employees and other individuals associated with the project,” Abdullah told reporters at Srinagar Railway Station before boarding the train to Sangaldan.
“Today, it is up to Sangaldan, and I am sure it will soon reach Katra. The train service will resolve the issues that used to arise due to road blockades. It is crucial for tourism, and goods will be transported from here to other States and vice versa, boosting trade as well,” he said.
The Srinagar MP hoped that the train project would be completed by July this year.
“I hope this train will be beneficial for the people of the region. We were expecting this service in 2007, but our region has tough terrain requiring tunnels to be constructed. The staff faced many hardships, but they braved them all to make the first step possible. I am hopeful that the full project will be completed by June-July,” he said.
