RAJOURI, Dec 6: The body of Karamat Shah, a father of four from Daraj Kotranka, was discovered under suspicious circumstances in the Ans River today, sparking tension and protests in the local community.
Shah had been working on a ‘kuccha’ house near the river when he went missing on Thursday evening. His family launched a search the following morning and found his lifeless body in the water.
A police team led by SHO Budhal, Parveen Kumar, swiftly arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem and other medico-legal formalities at the Kotranka Government Hospital. The body was later returned to the family for final rites.
Upon receiving the body, Shah’s family members and local residents staged a protest on the Rajouri-Budhal road in Draj, alleging that Karamat Shah had been murdered and his body disposed of in the river. The protestors demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death.
The road remained blocked for about an hour, causing disruption in the area. Police officials, led by SHO Parveen Kumar, intervened and assured the family that a case of “death under suspicious circumstances” had been registered and that a detailed investigation was underway. Following this, the protest was called off, and the body was taken for burial.
Authorities have promised to pursue all leads to uncover the truth and ensure justice for the deceased man.
