SAMBA, Feb 14: Female lifters received a big applaud from the gathering of college students and staff in the District Samba Weightlifting Championship, which was organised by District Samba Weightlifting Association under the aegis of J&K Weightlifting Association at GDC Samba campus, here today.
Principal of the College, Prof Naveen Anand appreciated the young women for their courage to perform in front of the huge crowd and excelled in their respective weight categories.
College Principal along with other distinguished guests honoured the position holders in different weight categories. Later, general secretary of the Association, Yudhvir Singh expressed his gratitude to the GDC Samba for extending a helping hand and thanked the Sports and Physical Education Department of the college for the cooperation.
In men 55 kg category, Jasmeet Majhotra, Zakir Hussain and Gopal Sharma won first three prizes respectively, wherein 61 kg category Rohit stood 1st whereas Ankit Sambyal and Shubam Singh remained 2nd and 3rd respectively and in 67 kg, Dushant Billoria and Manjeet Singh won top two positions.
In 73 kg category, Keshav Sharma clinched 1st positions and Udhav Kumar got 2nd place, whereas in 81 kg, top three positions were clinched by Aryan Duggal, Deewanker Singh and Tajinder Singh respectively and in 89 kg category, 1st, 2nd and 3rd position were secured by Namandeep Singh, Niranter Sambyal and Ashutosh respectively besides in 90 kg, Abhishek and Aditya Sambyal stood 1st and 2nd.
In women category 45 kg, top three positions were won by Vijay Lakshmi, Paramjeet Kour and Krishna Sharma respectively, whereas in 55 kg category, Neha Devi and Sonika Choudhary bagged 1st and 2nd positions respectively and in 59 kg, Shivani Sharma got 1st place besides in 64 kg, Sonika Krotra secured 1st position, whereas in 71 kg category, Isha Devi and Deepika Rani secured top two positions and in 55 kg, Jasmeet Majohtra bagged first position.
Harbhajan Singh and Ravi Singh, president and vice president of the Association were also present.
The event was organised under the supervision of District president, Kulbir Singh and secretary, Jangbir Singh while Dhanraj Singh (NIS), Amit Sharma and Muneesh Charak were among technical panel.
